Criminal law — Offences — Game of chance — Defendant owned and operated gaming machines which offered five game functions including poker and black jack — Some skill was required to learn how to operate the machine but the game functions required negligible skill or judgment — Defendant was charged with promoting and conducting an illegal game of chance and making pecuniary gain therefrom — Whether the machine was a prize competition or a lottery — Whether knowledge or skill in learning how to operate the machine was a defence — Gaming and Lotteries Act 1977, ss 2 and 6.
