Maoris and Maori land — Lease containing option to purchase — Lease was an instrument of alienation which was confirmed by the Maori Land Court — Option could not be taken away but when exercised the agreement for sale and purchase or the transfer would require confirmation by the Maori Land Court — Maori Affairs Act 1953, ss 2, 224, 227(1), 228(1), 232 and 452(8).
Sale of land — Restrictive legislation — Land settlement promotion — Option to purchase contained in lease of Maori land comes within s 23(p) of the Land Settlement Promotion and Acquisition of Land Act 1952.
