Criminal law — Sentence — Sexual violation — Sexual abuse of children in relationship of trust — Solicitor-General's appeal — Accused pleaded guilty of eight charges of sexual violation of two children aged nine and eight years, the offences occurring on a number of occasions when he was 21 and 22 years of age and while he was baby-sitting the children — Accused was sentenced to six months periodic detention and two years supervision — Whether imprisonment was inevitable for offences involving extensive sexual abuse of children by a person in a position of responsibility — Whether there were exceptional circumstances justifying a non-custodial sentence — Crimes Act 1961, s 128B.
