Criminal law — Sentence — Fraud by person in a position of trust — Accused pleaded guilty to defrauding his employer of nearly $2 million and was sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment — Whether sentence was excessive — Whether provisions of the Criminal Justice Act dealing with sentencing for property offences were intended by Parliament to signal to the Courts that there should be a new leniency in major fraud cases — Criminal Justice Act 1985, ss 6 and 7.
