Criminal law — Evidence — Confessional statement by accused produced by the Crown — Statement contained admissions and self-serving material — In summing up Judge emphasised that there was a clear distinction between statements of admission and statements of a self-serving nature — A self-serving statement being something of lesser quality which was not evidence and on which the jury could not act unless supported by sworn testimony — Whether there had been a misdirection.
