Criminal law — Sentence — Custodial sentence imposed on accused who had not been legally represented in Court — Accused had refused legal representation at opening of trial — On sixth day he requested legal aid — Counsel was assigned but when trial resumed counsel withdrew with leave — Whether Court had jurisdiction to sentence accused to imprisonment — Whether the assignment of counsel late in the trial, who did not represent the accused in Court, precluded a sentence of imprisonment — Criminal Justice Act 1954, s 13A.
